During its meeting yesterday at the Federation’s headquarters in Dubai, headed by Counselor Salem Bahyan Al-Amri, the Football Association’s election committee has set March 12 as the date for holding the elections of the Federation’s Board of Directors for the 2020-2024 electoral cycle.
For his part, Salem Bahyan Al-Amri said, in a press statement, after the meeting, which lasted for about two hours: "The election schedule will be determined in coordination and consultation with the Appeals Committee, and after discussing the time required to appeal the decisions of the election committee."
Al-Amri described the elections list as good, noting that the establishment of elections in the system of the unified list instead of the previous system, which is the individual candidacy, will contribute to achieving more harmony between the candidate for the position of President of the Federation and his work team in the Board of Directors.
Al-Amri added: "I hope that the clubs will nominate the effective personalities in the upcoming elections for the Football Association."
The affairs of the Football Association are currently managed by a transitional committee headed by Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al-Nuaimi, until the elections for a new board of directors leading the Football Association, during the period from 2020 to 2024.
According to Article VI of the Elections Regulations, the election committee has a term of four years, effective from the date of its election by the general assembly, according to the regulations stipulating that the committee must be elected six months before the date of the general assembly to elect a new board of directors for the Football Association . In accordance with the text of Article 11 of the Elections Regulations, the tasks and powers of the Elections Committee include 20 items, including the implementation of the provisions of the Federation's statute and the regulations issued by it, including the election regulations, in addition to the regulations of the International Football Association, and specifying the date and procedures for opening the door for candidacy for elections, and determining the period for the candidate To withdraw the nomination, determine the period and time period for examining the nominations presented with the examination results and the names of the candidates for each category, and specify the periods for the appeal periods for the result of examining the nomination forms, the election committee decisions before the Appeals Committee, and the duration of the appeal procedures.
The tasks and functions of the election committee also include sending the final list of names of candidates, after completing the appeal procedures (if any) to the members of the general assembly and announcing them, determining the date of the general assembly meeting to elect the board of directors, preparing a timetable that includes all the proposed dates, and notifying all members of the general assembly And concerned parties, distributing information to members of the General Assembly, government agencies, the media and the masses, coordinating and communicating with public institutions in the state and relevant authorities, to implement the provisions of these regulations, and organizing the electoral general assembly administratively and in Y, supervising the preparation of nomination and election forms, and forms related to the electoral process, including voting papers, and making a list of the names of those entitled to vote in accordance with the provisions of the regulations, and checking the identity of those entitled to vote under the supervision of a member of the judicial bodies in the state, in coordination with the authorities Judicial authorities in the state nominate one of their members or notary public to supervise the elections, monitor voting procedures using the electoral register, count the votes, and take any necessary decision regarding the validity or invalidity of the ballot papers.
Principles of the electoral process
The General Assembly of the Football Association adopted, during its extraordinary meeting on the 12th of this month, the new list of elections for the Football Association, and the regulation stipulated that the board of directors of the Federation consist of 12 people, including the president of the association, members and the female component.
Article 3 of the electoral list specifies five general principles for the electoral process that include: the independence of electoral procedures according to the principle of separation of powers in the union, transparency in the practice of electoral procedures, ensuring that members exercise their rights to choose their candidates, publishing in all available media, and that no party interferes External.
