The Dutch water polosters have concluded the group stage at the European Championship in Budapest well. France, with the knowledge that the quarterfinals had already been reached, was set aside by no less than 18-1.
After the first quarter it was already 4-1 for the team of national coach Arno Havenga. Earlier, they won convincingly against Israel (22-3), Germany (23-3) and five-time European champion Italy (10-4).
Because of the victory over France, the Orange team, together with the strong Spain, which also left nothing behind, are in the lead in group B. On Sunday, they compete for the group win in a mutual duel.
The Netherlands is certainly in second place and that is important with a view to qualifying for the Olympic Games. The team can only hit Spain, which already has an Olympic ticket, in the final.
If the Orange squad faces Spain in the final, the Havenga team as a finalist is certain of participating in the Games.
