Rick Karsdorp returns on Saturday for the home game with SC Heerenveen after 2.5 months in the selection of Feyenoord. Keeper Justin Bijlow is the new first goalkeeper of the team from Rotterdam after the departure of Kenneth Vermeer.
Since the Europa League match with BSC Young Boys (1-1) on November 7, Karsdorp no longer played for Feyenoord due to a persistent groin injury.
The defender had his groin operated on in December and it was expected that he would have to recover for at least two months, but trainer Dick Advocaat said on Friday at his press conference that Karsdorp will be available again.
The experienced coach also expects more defenders to return from the infirmary quickly, although that is not yet in time for the match against Heerenveen. "We see Ridgeciano Haps coming again, while Sven van Beek and Edgar Ié will also join again", says Advocaat.
The trainer has to do without Vermeer in the second half of the season, who left Feyenoord this week for the American Los Angeles FC after 5.5 years.
The 21-year-old Bijlow - who started last season as the first goalkeeper, but due to an injury this season was not yet in action - will take over Vermeer's base. "Justin is fit," said Lawyer. "I don't know him that well, but he makes a fresh and eager impression."
