Rain can save fire-ravaged Melbourne

The fires in Australia affect the Australian Open in tennis even before the main tournament starts. The players are obviously feeling bad during the qualifying tournament, where several matches have been canceled. - It doesn't feel particularly healthy to breathe in that air, considering the images you've seen, says SVT's meteorologist Per Stenborg.

However, there does not seem to be any danger to the Australian Open. Melbourne Park has three large roofed arenas, as well as eight other indoor courts. And now comes the rain, from Thursday and at least until the start of the main tournament on Monday.

- Every drop of rain could mean that it washes out a little out of the air.

What are some hopes that the air will be really good?

- Of course, the rain does its job, then you can always hope for a wind ring so that you get the wind from another direction.
