After just over 20 minutes played, Hungary pulled away for a four goal lead when Bence Nagy drew a counter-attack to 10-6. Despite the occasional magnificent Niklas Landin in Denmark's goal, Denmark could never pass the kids. The usually potent Danish attack was difficult to find through the Hungarian defense. Big star Mikkel Hansen did what he could, but he was most often locked in by an edgy defense.

After 56 minutes, Denmark took their first lead in the match when Rene Toft Hansen was the recipient of a handsome effort by Mikkel Hansen and made no mistake when he pulled there 24-23. The many red and white supporters in Malmö woke up a lot in the final minutes of the match. Zoltan Szita did not seem to notice much when he acknowledged the event with just over 1.30. With one minute left and the same on the board, Denmark took time out. But the Danes' last attack in the match was strangely awaited and with a warning for passive play, Mikkel Hansen took a poor finish with eight seconds left. The Hungarians had the decision in their own hands but could not come to any dangerous end and the match ended 24-24.
