Portuguese driver Paulo Gonçalves, 40, died on the Dakar roads in Saudi Arabia. Accustomed to the event, of which he finished second in 2015, the motorcycle pilot was the victim of a fall, announced the organizers.
Gonçalves, who was competing in his thirteenth Dakar, fell at km 276 of the special. The pilot was unconscious when the medical team on the mission arrived. He was then transported by helicopter to the hospital, where his death was recorded.
