The Kenyan Rhonez Kipruto set a new 10K world record en route on Sunday when he won the Valencia Ibercaja race with a time of 26:24 minutes, while his compatriot Sheila Chepkirui won with 29:46.
Although Chepkirui was initially attributed a provisional record of 26:42, which would have meant a world record, it was finally ratified that his mark was 26:46, which is the best time of this circuit.
Kipruto, who also beat the world record by passing through the 5k, preceded his compatriot Bernard Kimeli (27:12) and the Swiss Julian Wanders, third with 27:13, Europe's new record.
The previous 10K world record belonged to the Ugandan Joshua Cheptegei , who last December won the 10K Valencia Trinidad Alfonso in a time of 26:38.
In the women's race, after Sheila Chepkirui, her compatriots Rosemary Wanjiru (29:50) and Norah Jeruto (29:51) have qualified.
