Al-Ahly Club of Egypt announced today that club president Mahmoud Al-Khatib has received an official invitation from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to attend the celebration of choosing the best player in Africa organized by the African Union on Tuesday evening in Hurghada.

Al-Ahly club stated on its official website that the invitation came to Al-Khatib as one of the most prominent legends of African football throughout its history, and the president of the largest club in the continent. He received the Golden Ball as the best African player in 1983.

The statement added: "The Al-Ahly president had previously answered the invitation of the African Union and was present at a conference signing the sponsorship of the selection ceremony for the best player in Africa, which was held in September last year in Hurghada."

The statement continued: "Mahmoud Al-Khatib was also keen to accept the invitation of the African Football Confederation to participate in the meetings of Gianni Infantino, President of the International Federation with the African Union system headed by Ahmed Ahmed, which was held recently in Cairo; Developing the game and the system, and making some reforms, especially in light of the big changes in the recent period.
