10. Daria Shmeleva (cycling race)

In 2019, cyclist Daria Shmeleva had an iron rule - not to stay at the main starts without gold. First, she brilliantly performed at the World Championships and won the competition in the Gita, having already won her fourth victory. And silver in the team sprint and bronze in keirin she brought the number of her medals to nine.

Further, Shmeleva almost did not know the competition at the European Games, where she won two golds and two bronzes. And already at the autumn European championship she again collected a full set of awards, becoming the nine-time champion of the continent. The end of the year, however, was unsuccessful for the athlete - she received serious injuries, because of which she could miss the pre-Olympic world championship.

9. Elena Nikitina (skeleton)

Almost every year, the skeleton Elena Nikitina achieves something that before her, none of the Russian girls succeeded. In 2019, such an achievement was a victory in the overall standings of the World Cup. Nikitina won in three stages, in the second two she took the second place, and in the rest she did not fall below the fifth. By the amount of points she scored the best result in the last three years.

Nikitina also became the silver medalist of the European Championship, and in the new winter season she has already won one stage of the World Cup, thanks to which she has every chance to win the Crystal Globe again.

8. Svetlana Kolesnichenko and Svetlana Romashina

These two synchronized synchronists cannot be separated from each other. Svetlana Kolesnichenko and Svetlana Romashina four years later reunited in the main Russian duet and conquered the world championship in water sports in Gwangju. Together they won two golds in the technical and free programs.

Usually, only one of the duets performs in all solo competitions, but this time the girls divided among themselves the right to another victory. Kolesnichenko won gold in technology, becoming a 16-time world champion, and Romashina was the best in free competitions, which allowed her to break Natalya Ishchenko's record and win the world championship for the 21st time.

7. Alena Kostornaya (figure skating)

For the skater Alyona Kostornaya, the year 2019 was not easy to start. Because of the injury, she did not perform at the Junior World Championships, although she was a clear contender for the medal. She approached the first adult season without four jumps, which somewhat reduced her chances in the fight against other debutants - Anna Scherbakova and Alexandra Trusova. However, Kostornaya managed to learn the triple axel in a short time and combine it with truly mature skating.

The result was not long in coming. Kostornaya became the third skater in history, who in her first adult season immediately won two stages of the Grand Prix and the final. She twice broke the world record in the short program, and also became the current record holder in the sum of two ratings, gaining the highest scores according to both old and new rules.

6. Alina Zagitova (figure skating)

No matter how important the victory in the Grand Prix finals is, gold in the world championship is much more appreciated in figure skating. He was won in 2019 by Alina Zagitova. Her success was preceded by a series of trials - the Olympic champion was only the fifth in the Russian championship, she was left with silver at the European championship. Her prospects for winning the missing gold of the World Cup were very vague due to the rivals who had gone far technically.

But Zagitova wiped her nose to everyone who doubted her talent and stamina. Two excellent performances in Saitama brought her victory and the right to a welcome career break, which she announced the following season after two medals at the Grand Prix and sixth place in the final.

5. Inna Deriglazova (fencing)

The real queen of fencing in 2019 was Inna Deriglazova. Before the main starts of the year, European and world championships, she simply did not know her peers at the stages of the World Cup - at six tournaments out of seven, the Olympic champion in rapier took gold.

Little Deriglazova was unlucky at the European Championships - there she lost in the finals to her old friend Elise Di Franiche from Italy, but this only enraged the Russian woman so that she would no longer lose in the summer. Deriglazova helped her friends win the team tournament, and soon at the World Championships she took the winning double and became the six-time world champion. Her performance at the World War Games was just as successful.

4. Julia Efimova (swimming)

The world championship in water sports in Gwangju became the sixth swimmer for her swimmer, Julia Efimova, and by tradition she took away an armful of medals from him. She defended the title of champion at a distance of 200 meters breaststroke and became the first in history who managed to win three victories in this form.

Efimova’s collection also included silver at a distance half that length and bronze at fifty dollars. If we take into account only personal awards, then the Russian woman climbed to fourth place among the best swimmers in the history of world championships, and in terms of the total number of medals she is second only to Swede Sarah Sjöström. During her career, Efimova climbed the podium 15 times thanks to personal success.

3. Angelica Sidorova (athletics)

The best in pole vault in 2019 was again the Russian athlete. Angelica Sidorova became the world champion in the discipline that was once beloved by Russian fans. At the competitions in Doha, she and the American Sandy Morris presented the audience with a real performance - they took each height from the first attempt.

Only when the bar rose to 4.95 m, which Sidorova never conquered, they began to make mistakes. After Morris's third unsuccessful attempt, Sidorova had only one opportunity to avoid the debilitating jump, which could leave without well-deserved gold. And at the last moment, the 28-year-old athlete still took off to the desired height and took first place.

Sidorova's merits in 2019 are not limited to this. She also won the European Indoor Championships and two stages of the Diamond League, helped the European team win the match with the United States and ended the season with the best result in the world - the same 4.95 meters shown in Doha.

2. Dina Averina (rhythmic gymnastics)

Many have long known that Dina Averina and her sister Arina are the best "artists" in the world. But still, what Dean achieved in 2019 does not fit into her head. At the championship of the planet, she won five gold medals and one bronze - none of the gymnasts brought such a set of medals from one tournament over the past five years.

And such a result was quite expected. Dina Averina won three golds and silver at the European Championships, and from the European Games brought three awards of the highest standard along with one silver and one bronze. You can list the successes achieved in less significant tournaments until next year, according to which a new Olympic goal will be set for the 21-year-old athlete.

1. Maria Lasicken (Athletics)

For the second time, Maria Lasicken became the best athlete of the year according to RT. As in 2017, a convincing argument in her favor was the victory at the World Cup, and the most beautiful of all the previous ones.

The third gold, a record for high jumps, Lasitsken won in a difficult struggle with an unexpected rival Jaroslava Maguchih from Ukraine. Together they conquered the bar 2.04 m, but the Russian athlete was in first place due to attempts, since in each round she needed only one jump.

She didn’t forget about other competitions - she also won the closed European Championship, won the Diamond League for the fourth time and was the best in 19 other tournaments, including the World War Games, for which she played under the Russian flag for the first time in four years. In addition to medals, Lasickene in 2019 won the long-awaited recognition from sports officials - the European Athletics Association named the Russian woman the best athlete of the season.

Trainer of the Year - Eteri Tutberidze (Figure Skating)

A rare year in figure skating goes without the triumph of students of Eteri Tutberidze, and 2019 was no exception. In addition to Zagitova and Kostornaya, Anna Shcherbakova and Alexandra Trusova also shone in the sports arena, who won two stages of the Grand Prix and also rose to the podium of the final tournament and the championship of Russia.

And the list of Tutberidze’s superlative wards is not limited to this - under her leadership, a new generation of figure skaters is growing up, who will surely win in the next years. Kamila Valieva won two stages and the final of the Junior Grand Prix, Daria Usacheva won two silver and bronze at the same competitions, Daniil Samsonov holds the junior world record in the free program and won the bronze of the Grand Prix finals at his age.
