Today, a Polish court sentenced a notorious football official to four and a half years in prison, after he was convicted of leading a group that had received bribes to fix matches.

According to the Polish News Agency, the official, whom I only knew as "Raisard F" for legal reasons, was convicted on more than 100 charges attributed to him.

The ruling also included a ban on the official's participation in any sporting events for ten years.

Local media reported that the group, led by the main suspect, had tampered with the results of matches at various levels of professional football in Poland, including the Premier League, between 2003 and 2006.

The trial of the group's members began in 2012.

Thirty-one sentences are also due to be convicted of complicity with the official.
