That the NHL would replace all star week 2021 with a new edition of the national tournament World Cup has been debated. That it will not be clear since the owners and representatives of the NHL clubs from the league meet. This was announced by NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, according to TSN reporter Pierre LeBrun on Twitter.

According to LeBrun, the NHL wants to host a World Cup as soon as possible, but when is unclear. Thus, the first major national team tournament apart from the annual World Cup will be the Beijing 2022 Olympics. But whether it will be with NHL players is not determined.

- As the union's chairman, I would of course welcome both a World Cup as early as 2021 and a Winter Olympics 2022 with all the world's best players available. We know what this means for ice hockey's interest, says Anders Larsson to Aftonbladet.
