After only scoring two goals on 51 shots in the first meeting, where Frölunda lost by 3-2, coach Roger Rönnberg brought spray paint to the following training. He used it to mark where on the ice the shots would be taken so that they would have a greater chance of resulting in goals. And it seems to have produced results.

Joel Lundqvist and Ryan Lasch gave Frölunda the lead 2-0 early in the match and it looked like the reigning champion had tied a secure grip on the semi-finals. But Biel made a turn and with less than four minutes left they took the lead in front of a cheering home crowd.

Two goals in 19 seconds

Shortly after Biel's 3-2 goal, Frölunda took out the goalkeeper and Biel had a great position to puncture the match but missed the goal. Then Frölunda's pickup began and in just 19 seconds they had scored two goals and took the game to an extension.

- We were lucky here at the end. Our players show character in the end, it's incredible. We have played well over these two matches where Biel has tested us hard. On the whole, I think we have been the better team, says Frölunda's coach, Roger Rönnberg.

Carlsson match hero

There Frölunda got an expulsion that would prove to be crucial. Patrik Carlsson became Frölunda's match hero when he fired a shot - precisely in the zone where Rönnberg wanted to end. Puck looked behind Jonas Hiller and Carlsson pushed Frölunda to the semi-final with his second goal of the match.

- It was a strange expulsion and I think everyone in this arena saw it, says Biel's coach, Antti Törmänen.
