The World Anti-Doping Agency (AMA) sanctioned Russia on Monday without being able to participate for four years in all major sporting events. Thus, the Russian flag and anthem will not be allowed in events such as the next Tokyo 2020 Olympics or the 2022 Soccer World Cup in Qatar .

According to the resolution, athletes who can demonstrate that they are not contaminated by the doping scandal may compete under a neutral flag . The AMA executive committee made the unanimous decision at a meeting in Lausanne (Switzerland).

The sanction occurs after the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (Rusada) was found guilty for manipulating laboratory data delivered to researchers in January 2019.
