Already in November, Wada's review committee proposed a suspension of Russian sports for four years - and now it is clear that this will be the case. Today, the proposal was discussed by Wada's executive committee, and at a meeting in Paris, the decision was made to shut down Russia.

That means Russia will miss the Summer Olympics in Tokyo and other major championships over the next four years. Russia must also not arrange or seek major championships.

Russian athletes can, however, compete under the neutral flag - provided they can prove that they are not included in the McLaren report. The athletes must also prove that they did not submit positive doping tests and that their doping tests are not tampered with.

Wada's conflict with Russian sport extends since the McLaren report was released in November 2015.

Russia can appeal the decision to the Sports Arbitration Court Cas.
