After a heavy 2019, the Swedish golf star ended the year by putting the world elite in place - and winning Tiger Wood's star-studded Hero World Challenge competition in the Bahamas. It was after the 44th place in Dubai, a competition that today's second Jon Rahm won, after not going round for 70 strokes, that Stenson sat down with coach Pete Cowan and talked through the situation.

Stenson identified the key holes for today's victory in the competition, which was played during four rounds Wednesday through Saturday.

- I made some important couple saves on holes 11 and 14 and of course, today's battle was what I did with the wooden five on the 15th hole where I was a few inches from an albatross. When I play at the top of my ability I can compete with the best, Stenson says in an interview on the track, according to Reuters.

The Swede went second in leader ball on the fourth lap, one stroke behind Gary Woodland.

A beat before last year's Spanish winner

But unlike Stenson, the American couldn't maintain his fine play from the previous three rounds. Woodland lost a lot and played early away from victory.

Instead, Stenson went into solitary leadership with Tiger Woods, Jon Rahm and Patrick Reed in particular chasing him. However, the 43-year-old kept away - and when he lowered a short putt for the pair in the 18th hole, the thing was clear.

After going around on 69, 67, 68 and finishing 66 strokes, Stenson landed on a final score of 18 under par - one stroke ahead of Spanish two and last year's winner Jon Rahm.

Stenson cannot claim the victory on the PGA Tour because the starting field of 18 players is too small.
