Engström has been assistant coach so far during the season.
"HV71 and Lucas have agreed that he will leave his assignment for personal reasons and then we have chosen to resign Joakim as the head of the women's team," said Peter Ekelund, general manager of HV71, according to a press release.
HV71 has won 18 of 21 matches so far in SDHL and leads the table by a full twelve point margin to the two Brynäs.
