JOC Chairman Yamashita to take office as IOC member December 6th 1:02

Mr. Yasuhiro Yamashita, Chairman of JOC = Japan Olympic Committee, will be newly appointed as a member of IOC = International Olympic Committee next month.

The last IOC Executive Board meeting held in Lausanne, Switzerland, voted for the host city of the Olympics on the 5th of the final day, including JOC President Yamashita and International Football Federation President Infantino at the general meeting next month. I decided to recommend it as an IOC member with the right. The three candidates are expected to be officially selected by the IOC General Assembly in Lausanne on the 10th of next month.

Mr. Yamashita is an indiscriminate gold medalist at the Los Angeles Olympics Judo and took office as JOC President in June after replacing JOC President Tsunekazu Takeda.

Mr. Takeda also resigned from the IOC committee, so the IOC committee in Japan was one chairman of the International Gymnastics Federation, Mr. Morinari Watanabe. Is expected to be stronger.

IOC President Bach spoke about the recommendation of Mr. Yamashita to the IOC committee, saying, “Towards the Tokyo Olympics, Japan and IOC can be in a win-win situation,” and expressed their expectations.

In addition, Yuki Ota, Chairman of the Japan Fencing Association, was selected as a candidate for an athlete committee that will be partly re-elected at next year's Tokyo Olympics.

There are 30 candidates who will vote by athletes during the Tokyo Games, and the top four will be qualified as IOC members as athlete members.
