Bauke Mollema will be the leader of Trek-Segafredo in the Tour de France next year together with Richie Porte. The 33-year-old rider skips the Giro d'Italia and goes in the Vuelta a España for stage victories.
"We have made a distribution for the major rates," Mollema tells the AD . "I ride the Tour for the classification, Vincenzo Nibali goes to the Giro. We will probably do the Vuelta together. I not for the classification, but for the stage victories."
Trek-Segafredo team boss Luca Guercilena announced earlier this month that top purchase Nibali will focus in 2020 on the Giro, the Tokyo Olympic Games and the World Cup on the road in Switzerland.
The 35-year-old Italian, who comes from Bahrain-Merida, skips the Tour. In his career, Nibali has already won the Tour of Italy (2013 and 2016), the Tour of France (2014) and the Tour of Spain (2010).
Mollema has been driving for Trek since 2015 and, thanks to the presence of Alberto Contador and Porte among others, has never been the undisputed leader in the American formation. Nevertheless, he has regularly been the leader of Trek-Segafredo in large rounds in recent years.

Mollema has always started in the Tour since 2011
Mollema rode the Giro this year, in which he finished fifth. In the Tour he started as Porte's foreman and finished 28th. His Australian teammate was the number eleven of the final classification.
The Dutch climber, who booked the most beautiful victory of his career in the Tour of Lombardy in October, started every year since 2011 in the Tour of France. His best final classification in the Tour is the sixth place in 2013.
The Tour de France starts in 2020 on June 27 in Nice. The final stage to Paris is on July 19.
