The decision comes after a proposal from the Norwegian Ski Association.

- We have adopted a total ban from the 2020/2021 season. This applies not only to so-called C8 fluorine, but also to all types of fluorine. The ban does not only apply to cross-country skiing, but to all branches of the FIS, says FIS board member Erik Röste according to langd.se.

The reason for the ban is, among other things, environment-related.

- We do this for three reasons. There is a clear signal from FIS that we do not want to use products that prove to be hazardous to health. Today's decision will also significantly reduce the cost of cross-country skiing. Environmental considerations are also part of the reason, says Röste.
