The Swedish Football Association has written to Uefa with its proposal that the ladies should also get a championship for the U21 national team. On the women's side there is the European Championship for U17 and U19, but no U21, as there is on the men's side.

Håkan Sjöstrand was in contact with Uefa as late as yesterday on the issue and looks positively at the welcoming proposal received.

- But it is a proposal and it must be investigated and discussed first. We want to drive this to strengthen women's soccer and because there is a gap between U19 and seniors, we think a tournament is needed.

When asked if a first women's U21 European Championship would be available, Sjöstrand answers avoidance. But SVFF's proposal has been written as an example in the summer of 2022, with qualifying games that would then start in 2021.

Is it also that Sweden is eager to arrange the first championship?

- Ha-ha. So far we have not come. But the most important thing now is to get a women's U21 European Championship.
