José Mourinho will almost certainly be the new manager of Tottenham Hotspur. According to various British media, the Portuguese is presented on Wednesday as the successor to the dismissed Mauricio Pochettino.
The Argentinian was fired on Tuesday after a five-year employment contract. The 47-year-old Pochettino led the club to the top of the Premier League in that period. Last season the final of the Champions League was reached at the expense of Ajax. Liverpool was too strong in that.
A delegation from the 'Spurs' reportedly spoke to Mourinho on Tuesday. The expectation is that both parties will reach an agreement on Wednesday. In that case, the 56-Portuguese can already sit on the bench in the duel with West Ham United.
'The Special One' has been out of work for almost a year, after being fired from Manchester United last December. He then took some distance from football, but hinted in recent months that he would like to get back to work.
Chairman Daniel Levy of last season's Champions League finalist also had his eye on the 32-year-old Julian Nagelsmann, but the German trainer of RB Leipzig is not available.
Tottenham Hotspur becomes the third club in England for Mourinho. He was previously in charge of Chelsea twice and therefore also Manchester United. The Portuguese also worked for FC Porto, Internazionale and Real Madrid, among others.
