Lisa Nordén won this summer's Cycling Championship, and was selected for the World Cup in England where she finished in 14th place in the tempo.

She then talked about completely changing sports, and making a whole-hearted commitment to cycling.

Can ride the SM

But it will not.

- I will continue to run triathlons, but bike as far as possible - as pace-SM and maybe some international pace, says the 2012 Olympic silver medalist to SVT Sport.

The reasons are two:

1. Sweden is only allowed to send a cyclist to the Tokyo Olympics next summer, and it will all be judged to be Emilia Fahlin, who as late as last year became four in the World Cup line race.

2. She has not succeeded in getting any professional stall to invest in her.

- Bicycle is quite different from how triathlon is, and I have realized that more and more the more I cycled. Bicycle is a team sport, a law is required. You cannot come yourself and sign up for a World Tour competition or major race, but you have to have this team structure behind, and you have to be a team player in the role you have in a team, says Nordén.

Few places to fight

Cycling sports are currently undergoing major change work on the women's side, where they have introduced requirements for, for example, salaries and leaders, which has resulted in several teams being closed down or merged with other teams. As a result, there are fewer places to fight for cyclists, and several established professional cyclists are currently without a law. The 34-year-old Nordén, who is basically without experience from cycling at this level, has thus had a difficult negotiating position.

- Although I have a big engine, I probably need quite a lot of time to find the right thing in the women's cluster and probably need a year to gather experience. So it would be a huge challenge and investment of some team, and no team was napping at it when we heard about it.

How does it feel to be nothing more, you sound a little disappointed?

- It has been really exciting and fun to test another sport after a career in one sport. It is extremely useful, both as a human and athlete. I've learned a lot. It would have been a cool thing to run a couple of years and just ride a bike, it is a luxury for me not to have to go to the swimming pool at six in the morning and run and work out 30 hours a week, but just cycle and focus on it.

- It would have been really exciting. But I'm not prepared to do it at any cost. Without it, only if it had been under the conditions that match the conditions I have in the triathlon.

Hope for the triathlon Olympics

Nordén, which has two triathlon competitions left this year, therefore chooses to continue with the triathlon sport. However, after several years of injury concerns, she does not have the opportunity to qualify for the Olympics next summer the "usual" way, but is forced to hope that Sweden sends a team to the mixed relay qualifiers in Beijing in May, where three nations can qualify - and thus also get a place in the individual competition.

- We'll see what the union says, it's entirely up to them - if they think it's worth investing in. But I can't help but think that they will seek to send a team to try and take that chance and opportunity, she says.
