Argentines Mati Díaz and Franco Stupaczuk won this Sunday the title of champions of the Cordoba Open, World Padel Tour tournament, by winning in the men's final by a double 3-6 to the Andalusian Paquito Navarro and Juan Lebrón after an hour and 20 minutes of play at the Vista Alegre Sports Palace.

It is the first title of the season for the winners, numbers 7 of the world, who put the best touch to a very close competition and in which they surpassed with effort all the screens from the quarterfinals. The start was powerful by the Argentine duo, supported by the intense game of a motivated 'Stupa', and with very fast points and a dizzying pace made Navarro and Lebrón, numbers three of the ranking, felt very uncomfortable and gave up the set by 3-6.

The encouragement of the public of Córdoba, who encouraged their Andalusian countrymen to breathe encouragement at the bad time, was stimulating for the Spanish couple when tackling the second set. The lawsuit was balanced when Sevillian Navarro and Cadiz Lebrón squeezed to turn the second sleeve into an epic battle, aware that a victory would have led them directly to the number one in the world rankings.

The Sevillian offered the best of his repertoire to tie (3-3) in the heat of a battle without a clear dominator, with the stands of the Vista Alegre Sports Palace on.

There came the replica of the Argentines, who saw their opportunity to take a blow in the ranking and took the score to a 3-6 that certified their success in Cordoba.

Seventh Martian victory

In the women's team, Marta Marta Marrero and Marta Ortega from Madrid beat Patricia Llaguno from Murcia and Eli Amatriaín from La Rioja 6-2 and 6-0 in one hour and 40 minutes of meeting. Marrero and Ortega thus confirmed their status as world numbers one. His forcefulness did not find a replica in one of the most spectacular pairs of the circuit, the one integrated by Llaguno and Amatriaín, who had described a brilliant trajectory until reaching the final, although they barely found a glimpse of weakness in the champions.

The first set started with very worked points by the 'Martas', who had to sweat to break the resistance of their rivals (3-1) and, without making just mistakes, they managed to take the first sleeve 6-2. From there, Marrero and Ortega lifted one more gear and took off definitively taking the score to 6-0 in the second set.

The winners had 40 winning strokes - the opponent does not touch the ball - in 14 games, a fact that reflects their dominance to conquer the seventh title they achieve this season in the world paddle circuit. Marta Ortega, who at 22 is the youngest player to reach world number one, declared after the final that she owed "a thank you" to her partner Marta Marrero, "who has been very patient with me and has taught me everything who knows, taking care of me like a little sister, "he said.

Marrero, the first player to be number one with two different couples, valued "evolution" in her partner's game, which "is not a miracle, but the fruit of a lot of work."

"Nobody gave us anything, we had to suffer and pass potholes," added the Canary.
