La Liga has gone through a tough fight with the Spanish Football Association to arrange league matches on American soil.

The reason behind this is that La Liga and the American media company Relevent last year signed a 15-year agreement to market the league in North America - something the country's football association has opposed.

Last year, the idea was that Barcelona and Girona would have met in Florida, but those plans were in the running.

In December, Villareal and Atlético Madrid are scheduled to meet in the United States, but now those plans also appear to be shattered.

Today, La Liga lost a legal dispute against the Spanish Football Association. However, the league said in a statement that they will appeal and continue to get a match on US soil in February instead.

- Arranging an official La Liga match abroad is part of a long-term strategy for international growth, says a spokesperson for La Liga to the news agency AP.
