It was at the end of October that the Spanish players' union AFE announced that the players in La Liga would go on strike from 16 November.

The biggest disagreement concerns the salaries of players with part-time contracts. AFE requested a minimum wage of 12,000 euros for part-time contracts, but the clubs, represented by ACFF, offered 8,000 euros.

The strike includes the Swedes Kosovare Asllani and Sofia Jakobsson who play in CD Tacón.

- As a football player you always want to play football. I'm not super excited. We are new to the league and the country. But we are on the players' side so clearly and we hope it will be resolved, Kosovare Asllani told SVT Sport on November 6.

However, a solution appeared to be in sight last week.

"The players have voted"

The Spanish Football Association RFEF then announced that they are contributing EUR 1.15 million, just over eleven million Swedish kronor, to the clubs to help meet players' salary requirements.

But players still feel they haven't received the collective bargains they deserve, and on Friday, the players' union sent out a press release confirming that the strike will be a fact from tomorrow - as long as nothing unpredictable occurs in the next few hours.

That means - to begin with - that the eight league matches that would be played during Saturday and Sunday will be canceled. Asllani and Jakobsson's CD Tacón would travel to away meeting against Athletic Club Bilbao on Saturday.

- We expect all matches in the highest series to be canceled. Just as in any industry, we cannot know for sure that everyone is following the strike. But the players have voted and announced that they will strike. We are behind their decision, but we will not force anyone into anything. There may be pressure from outside that we cannot influence, says José Luis Alonso, press spokesperson for the AFE player union, to SVT Sport.

Three clubs stand outside the club association (Athletic Bilbao, Barcelona and CD Tacón), but their players are involved in the strike. Ainhoa Tirapu, Athletic Bilbao, appears in a video where players make their demands.
