Frölunda has long been a major club on the men's side and last season they won the SHL playoffs. But on the women's side there has been no A-team - something that has led to some criticism of the club.

That will change.

In the 2023-2024 season, an A-team for women is expected to make their first matches. The club should also send in an application to the Swedish Ice Hockey Association to start an ice hockey gym for girls. The idea is that the future A-team should consist of players who have passed through the hockey gymnasium.

- There will be many young players, but there will be players who have received training from us before. It will be the same idea here as with the men's team, the body we will get from the local environment, says Mats Grauers to the Gothenburg Post.

Grauers says that initially it will not be as much invested in the women's team as the existing men's team, but that the goal is that the conditions will be the same in the long term.

- We will ensure that our players have everything they need to develop and they will have the same conditions as the men. If we start a senior team and do not give them the same conditions as the men, we bite our tail, he says.
