Mohammed Alsayed-Doha

The northern nature reserves and paths of the North witnessed his first look, in which Mohammed Al-Rumaihi discovered the secrets of his genius at the age of ten, to begin a long and arduous journey on the way to refine his talent, which he saw a bright future for Qatari archery.

Al-Rumaihi is the only Qatari archer to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and has been away from archery for long periods, but his determination to achieve his sporting dream led him to accept the challenges until he reached his goal.

The Qatari champion succeeded in qualifying for the Olympics in the dust competition after achieving 120/125 points in the 14th Asian Shooting Championship hosted by Qatar over ten days at the Lusail Ranges Complex with the participation of 1000 Rams and archers representing 32 countries, including 136 archers and archers from Qatar.

Al-Rumaihi, 30, said that the achievement of qualifying for the next Olympic Games did not come from a vacuum or easily, but came after a great work and effort, and a strong and fierce competition with the most prominent champions of Asia and the world.

He tells Al Jazeera Net that the Olympics are the dream of every Ram, and that his father, a former elected member, dreamed of it like many archers who, throughout their long journey, are chasing this dream without realizing it in light of the difficulty.

Many people play archery because they have no age, and there is a great opportunity to continue for later ages and achieve many achievements, as well as it is determined and challenging, and discover the archer every day new, with the same development.

Al-Rumaihi, who was a professional architect in 2006 at the age of 17, explained that his choice to practice this sport is due to his habit of using weapons, where he was going on hunting trips in the northern region accompanied by his father and friends.

When he started his career, he initially thought that it would take him a long time to achieve success, but his great talent quickly made him one of the best archers at the local and Gulf levels, but that did not meet all his ambitions, hopes and aspirations are very high, and confidence recorded the highest digital levels, to continue his superiority over Arab and Asian levels.

One year was enough for Al-Rumaihi to achieve his first gold at the Gulf level, and then rolled medals and titles, both individually and collectively, especially the individual who was crowned champion of Asia three times, and the Arabs twice, and the Gulf twice beside silver and bronze medals at all levels.

The Qatari champion has the best number of his country in the dust competition of 123/125 points, and is at the same time the best Gulf, Arab and Asian.

The relationship between the archer and the gun is close, which assures Rumaihi by saying, "The gun is part of me, it is dedicated to me, and wood has been tailored in a way that suits me, and I have used it for nine years."

The Qatari champion, who started his career with a used rifle that did not fit his capabilities, will participate in the Tokyo Olympics with a new rifle coming from Italy, one of the latest types in the world, with the emblem of the State of Qatar and is written in gold.

Al-Rumaihi said that he will work to develop his technical and intellectual level well during his preparation program for the Olympics, which will start in December next, and will include the world championships in Cyprus and India, as well as a number of open championships, in order to achieve the biggest dream of achieving Olympic gold and raising the flag Country.

The Asian Shooting Championship in Doha saw 38 qualifying cards for the Tokyo Olympics, of which the Arabs received three, one each for Qatar (Al-Rumaihi), Kuwait (Talal Al-Rashidi) and Lebanon (Ray Bassil), while most of the cards were dominated by archers of China, India and Japan, Iran and China won Taipei and the two Koreas. South and North, Kazakhstan, Singapore, Mongolia, Indonesia and Thailand between two and two cards.

Ali al-Kuwari, president of the Qatari federation and vice-president of the Asian Shooting Federation, said that the 14th continental championship in Doha has achieved remarkable successes at all levels, especially the technical after breaking 20 Asian numbers and five world records.

Al-Kuwari, who is also the chairman of the organizing committee of the Asian Championship, told Al-Jazeera Net that the squares of the Lusail Complex are equipped with the latest equipment to be used in the Tokyo Olympics.

He added that Qatar had a good Olympic qualification through Al-Rumaihi, but it was not the target, especially since the trio of Nasser Al-Attiyah, Rashed and Masood Al-Athba were about to qualify, but they failed to break the tie.

The 30th-ranked Rashid Al-Athba has little hope of catching up with the Olympic qualifiers through the international rankings, where he will be required to win the next two world championships in Cyprus and India, as well as good results in open tournaments.

Qatari archery has one bronze medal in the history of the Olympic Games, which Attiyah achieved in the Skeet competition after he hit 144 out of 150 during the London Olympics 2012.
