An already unstable situation on the Gaza Strip has escalated in recent days in violent situations. According to the Israeli military, significant rocket fire has recently been fired on Israel and announces that it is preparing for several days of fighting in Gaza.

Sweden's basketball ladies are in a European qualifier and are facing an important away match against Israel, amid a fiery conflict in the country.

- Obviously there is a concern in the squad. If we had received a recommendation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or that FIBA had said that you could not guarantee the safety, we obviously would not have gone, says national team manager Fredrik Joulamo to SVT Sport.

Fiba has given the green light for the match

In connection with the escalating situation in Gaza, the International Basketball Federation, Fiba, together with the Israeli federation made an investigation to see if the match could be considered safe to play.

- I feel confident in the fact that Fiba and the Israeli League have done what they should. Together they have come to the conclusion that there is no reason why the match should not be played. The unrest has centered around the southern parts of the country and we will not be there, we will be in Tel Aviv, Joulamo says and continues.

- This is not the first time we have been in unstable regions. Last year we were in Ukraine and it was the same there. The Foreign Ministry advised against going to certain parts of Ukraine, but we were at about the same distance as we do from Gaza now.
