Formula 1 announced an "immediate" plan to reduce its CO2 emissions to zero by 2030 and organize more environmentally friendly careers, in a period that goes until 2025. "This initiative includes cars, track activities, as well as the rest of the operations, "said the statement, which also involves the International Federation (FIA), the organizers of the races, the teams and the sponsors.

The first point is F1 engines, with the aim of continuing to develop hybrid technology, established in 2014 and the use of long-lasting fuels. "F1 can continue to be a shuttle in the automotive industry and work with the energy and automotive sectors to produce the first hybrid internal combustion engine with zero emissions," said CEO Chase Carey.

Among the 256,551 tons of CO2 emitted by F1 in 2019, according to published figures, only 0.7% is linked to engines, while 7.3% comes from other activities in the circuits (sponsorships, energy consumption , television broadcasting ...). Most of the emissions occur through the transport of material (45%), followed by the displacement of personnel (27.7%) and the operation of offices and factories (19.3%).

Before 2025

"They will be measures that seek to adopt ultra-efficient logistics and means of transport, as well as offices, facilities and factories that operate 100% with renewable energy," said F1. Carbon compensation and CO2 capture in the air programs are also planned.

With regard to the reception of spectators, the elimination of non-reusable plastics and the recycling, composting and reuse of all wastes before 2025, as well as the development of less polluting means of displacement.
