Sherida Spitse believes that the Orange Women are obliged in their European Championship qualifying duels to win with large numbers. Thanks in part to two goals from the midfielder, the Netherlands won 1-4 on Tuesday against Slovenia.

"With all due respect for our opponents in this qualifying series, but with our qualities at our stand, we are obliged to win with this kind of results," said 29-year-old Spitse after the game at Veronica .

"We were 1-0 behind due to a misunderstanding, but even after that we remained calm and we no longer ran into problems. That's good of us, but at the same time it should be."

Thanks to two goals from Spitse from a penalty kick, the Orange took the lead shortly after the break. Vivianne Miedema made it 4-1 with two more hits.

On Friday against Turkey (0-8 win), Spitse was twice certain too. She scored one of those two goals from a penalty kick.

"It is great that I have used three penalties during this international match, but I can only do that thanks to my teammates. It is also an art to enforce those penalties."

Intermediate group A

  • 1. The Netherlands 6-18 (28-3)
  • 2. Russia 3-6 (5-2)
  • 3. Kosovo 3-6 (4-6)
  • 4. Slovenia 5-6 (14-10)
  • 5. Estonia 4-1 (1-13)
  • 6. Turkey 5-1 (1-19)

Pointed happy with period of rest

Spitse, who plays with Valerenga in Norway, will play two more matches with her club before the winter break starts. The 29-year-old attacker made no secret that she was looking forward to a footballless period.

"I went on from December to December and only had ten days of rest after the World Cup. Physically it is still going well, but mentally I am done with all the obligations regarding football. At a certain moment a vacation is also nice."

"Moreover, there is also a small one coming to our home at the beginning of January, so I am really looking forward to that. I am happy with the way we ended the year."

Spitse has no international obligations in any case for less than six months. Only on April 4, 2020 is the next European Championship qualifier against Kosovo scheduled.
