The European Athletics Championships, cycling, golf, gymnastics, rowing and triathlon will be held in Munich in 2022. The German city is organizing the second edition of the combined European championships in three years in August.
The European Championships will be held from 11 August to 21 August in the Olympiapark in the southern German city. In 1972 (then fifty years ago) the Olympic Games took place there.
The combined European championships were organized for the first time in 2018. The European Swimming, Cycling, Gymnastics, Golf, Rowing and Triathlon Championships were completed in Glasgow, while the European Athletics Championships were held in Berlin.
The European Championships are missing at the second edition in Munich. That tournament may be integrated into the European Games, but this is still being discussed with the relevant unions.
With these combined championships, European sports associations hope for more brand recognition and sponsorship opportunities.

The Netherlands won 43 medals at previous European Championships
In the first edition of the combined European Championships, Dutch athletes won 43 medals (fifteen gold, fifteen silver and thirteen bronze).
Sharon van Rouwendaal made an important contribution with three European titles and a silver medal in the open water. The same goes for Femke Heemskerk, who took silver four times during long-lane swimming.
The Netherlands collected no fewer than fourteen medals at the European Championships. This was mainly due to the important harvest on the track, where no less than eight medals (five times gold and three times bronze) were taken.
