Top players Anish Giri and Magnus Carlsen will be present again next year at the Tata Steel Chess Tournament in Wijk aan Zee, the organization announced on Tuesday. The two played the final this year.
28-year-old Noor Carlsen won the prestigious tournament in January this year for the seventh time thanks to a draw against 25-year-old Dutchman Giri.
Giri was also close to winning the Tata Steel Chess Tournament in 2018, where the last Dutch final victory dates from 1985. At the time, Jan Timmerman won the title.
Tata Steel Chess has a strong field of participants at the upcoming edition, because in addition to number one in the world, Carlsen and global number three, Giri, number two in the world is Fabiano Caruana from the United States.
A top ten player is taking part with Ian Nepomniachtchi from Russia (sixth in the global ranking). The tournament starts on January 10 and lasts until January 26.
