The message crashed like a bomb. Diamond League broadcasts are cut from 120 to 90 minutes. One of the branches that was most affected is the discus with great Swedish interest with and with world champion Daniel Ståhl. The reactions were quick and harsh and after a while the IAAF now responds to the criticism.

“We understand that athletes in the events that are no longer part of the Diamond League coverage are disappointed. Our broadcasting companies told us that a 90-minute program would give us better international coverage so we had to make tough decisions, "IAAF press manager Nicole Jeffrey writes to SVT Sport in a text message.

"The decision will be evaluated"

According to Jeffrey, the paced sports will have other opportunities to compete in the newly launched Continental Tour which starts next year. Jeffrey also believes that the decision will be evaluated by the coming season.

"Decisions are being made now about whether the Diamond League will be evaluated after the 2020 season. We did a lot of research to help us decide which branches would not be included in our broadcasts next year"
