British Nicola Adams, 37, became the first female Olympic champion in boxing when she won the flyweight class in London 2012. A title she also defended during the Rio Olympics 2016.

The year after the second gold medal, Adams went on to become a professional boxer and as late as this year she won WBO's master belt in flyweight. But there will be no more titles for Adams. She has now chosen to quit because of fear of losing sight.

During the career, the British has had many blows to the eye and has now been forced to make a difficult decision.

- I have been informed that if I get further damage to my eye, I will probably have chronic damage and possibly permanent vision loss, Adams says in his statement to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

- I am extremely honored to have represented our country - winning double Olympic gold medals and since the WBO championship belt is a dream come true. But it's not worth hurting my body more than I expected.

The 37-year-old Adams ends his professional career with a five-win result and a draw.

Adam's gold medal at the Rio Olympics 2016 made her the first British boxer in 92 years to retain an Olympic title.
