In the final of the competition Ayukaev defeated the German representative Alexander Bachmann. The bronze medalists of the European Championship in absolute weight were Slovenian Ivan Traykovich and Italian Roberto Botta.
Ayukaev's gold was the third for Russian athletes at the European Championships. Earlier, Tatyana Kudashova and Anton Kotkov rose to the highest step of the podium.
Earlier it was reported that Russian Kudashova won the European Taekwondo Championship in the weight category up to 53 kg.
