Saúl 'Canelo' Álvarez conquered the WBO light heavyweight title by beating Russian Sergei Kovalev by KO in the 11th round, achieving the feat of becoming a champion in four divisions after climbing two categories. 'Canelo', who went from middleweight to light heavyweight for this fight, now has 53 wins, including 36 by KO, one loss and two draws.

After great wear and controlled for a long time by Kovalev's jab, 'Canelo' finally found the gap in the eleventh round. A terrible left hook to the chin caused the Russian to hesitate and a powerful right hook ended up on his knees. And so he remained alone because the rope held him, it took him several minutes to recover his spirit, while 'Canelo' received the cheers of the spectators of an MGM Grand.

After winning the CMB and OMB belts in the super-welterweight, CMB, AMB and FIB in the middleweight and AMB in the super-middleweight, the Mexican boxer adds the OMB in the light heavyweight to his record. A remarkable performance for this boxer of only 29 years, which began at 15 among professionals.

Especially since he achieved what few could do before him, that is, beat a specialist in a category, such as Kovalev in light heavyweight, coming directly from two categories below. The American Bernard Hopkins , who was present, did so in 2006, at age 40.

The last to achieve it, although without a title at stake, was Filipino Manny Pacquaio , who had overcome the light welterweight and closed the career of American Oscar De La Hoya in 2008. Two boxing legends that made history, since they are both unique that have been world champions in six different divisions.

'Canelo' now has four, but he was the first since Henry Armstrong (1938) to be simultaneously in three divisions (medium, supermedia and medium heavy). As he had announced, he has already entered the history of this sport.
