Jo-Wilfried Tsonga lost to Rafael Nadal while Gael Monfils was heavily beaten by Canadian Denis Shapovalov.

The world No.2 Rafael Nadal has ended the course of the Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (35th) in the quarterfinals of the Masters 1000 of Paris in two sets 7-6 (7/4), 6-1 Friday.

This is the first time in six years that Nadal is hoisted in the last square at Bercy. He will face the young Canadian Denis Shapovalov (20, 28th), scorer a little earlier Gael Monfils (6-2, 6-2). The other semifinal will pit world No.1 Novak Djokovic against Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov (27). Raising the trophy in Bercy, where he has never won, will guarantee the Spaniard to finish in 2019 in the N.1 world costume, for the fifth time in his career, at 33 years old.

Monfils will go to the Masters by replacing

For his part, Gael Monfils defeated Canada's Denis Shapovalov (28th) in two sets 6-2, 6-2, and bid farewell to the end-of-season Masters. To pocket the final qualifying round for the London tournament with the eight best players of the season, the equation was simple for Monfils: he no longer had "more than" to climb into the last four. It is finally the Italian Matteo Berrettini who inherits it. The French will nonetheless make the trip to London in the position of second substitute.
