Liverpool reached the quarter-finals of the English League Cup on Wednesday after they knocked Arsenal away from the final by beating them on penalties 5-4, after the end of the regular time of the game with a dramatic 5-5 draw.

Liverpool went into the attacking attacker from the first minute, armed with the ground and the public in his favor, and his pressure resulted in an early goal in the sixth minute by friendly fire through the German Shkodern Mustafe by his own goal.

Arsenal then entered the game, leveling in the 19th minute through Uruguayan Lucas Torrera.

Brazilian Gabriel Martinelli scored the second and third goals for Arsenal in the 26th and 36th minutes.

By 43 minutes, Liverpool reduced the score by scoring the second goal by James Milner, ending the first half Arsenal with three goals for two goals.

By 54 minutes, Arsenal scored the fourth goal with Ainsley Maitland Nils.

Liverpool responded with a double through Alex Oxlade Chamberlain and Belgian Devok Origi in the 58th and 62nd minutes, adding to the excitement of the home side's draw.

Arsenal regained the lead again in the 70th minute by scoring the fifth goal through Joseph Willock.

Liverpool then looked for a chance to equalize, which was achieved in the 94th minute when Uruguay scored his second and fifth goal for the team, to be judged for the penalty shoot-out that Liverpool clinched for him 5-4.

The match saw the absence of a host of key players in the squad - Egypt's Mohamed Salah, Brazil's Roberto Firmino, Senegal's Sadio Mane and Dutchman Virgil van Dyke - who Jurgen Klopp preferred to give them rest and rely on his rising players.

The same applies to Arsenal, where Gabonese Pierre Aubameyang, Nicolas Pepe, Greek Constantine Mavropanos and David Luiz have not been hired.
