Wolfgang Pichler, after all his years in Swedish biathlon, got a job within the Swedish Olympic Committee. There he is part of a working group "Olympic Offensive" together with, among other things, former national team manager at length, Rikard Grip. Wolfgang's job is to find and develop new talents in winter sports. One concrete goal is that he wants to start a women's team in the Nordic combination that will stand on the legs of the Olympics 2026 in Milan-Cortina.

- We have to find girls who are 8-10 years old. We have seven years left if we start now, says Wolfgang Pichler.

New to the OS program

So far, women have not been welcomed to compete in the Nordic combination, but that is changing. In the 2021 World Cup in German Oberstdorf, the women make their entry into the major championships and the Olympic premiere is expected to be in Milan-Cortina in 2026.

- We have a great tradition in length so we should get some girls who want to do this. It will be easy medals to win, says Pichler.

One of the best coaches

The 64-year-old German demonstrator is confident that he can contribute in sports other than just biathlon.

- My style is that I can organize directly, I don't need ten meetings to get something done. It may sound like boast, but I think my training methodology is among the best in the world, says Pichler.
