• Viral: The story behind the photo of the traffic jam at Everest

Nirmal Purja , a 36-year-old Nepali , has become the climber who in less time has reached the top in the 14 'eightyears ' of the planet, an achievement conquered in just six months and that has taken several years to other climbers.

Purja made a peak on Mount Shishapangma , 8,027 meters and located in Tibet, six months and a week after he did it on Mount Annapurna I, where he began a challenge he called 'Possible Project'. Mingma Sherpa, of the Seven Summit Treks agency, which provided logistics to his team, said the Asian climber was accompanied to the top of the Shishapangma by three Sherpas.

" Mission accomplished, " Purja wrote on his official Instagram profile since the fourteenth highest mountain in the world and last of his project. After starting it in Annapurna, on April 23, he climbed the Dhaulagiri, Kanchenjunga, Everest, Lhotse and Makalu in the following month. He then moved to Pakistan to climb the Nanga Parbat, the Gasherbrum I, the Gasherbrum II, the K2, and Broad Peak, and subsequently to Nepal where he climbed the Cho Oyu and the Manaslu before finishing at the Shishapangma.

This feat of climbing the 14 'ochomiles' of the planet has barely been achieved by a dozen climbers , including the Spanish Edurne Pasabán. The previous record of topping in these mountains was held by South Korean Kim Chang-ho, who did it in seven years, 10 months and six days, according to blogger Alan Arnette.

A controversial record

Many mountaineers criticize that to achieve the figure as quickly as possible, Purja has helped helicopters to move to base camps , oxygen, simpler routes ... Something that mountain romantics have not received very well.

Purja, who served with the British special forces , was the one who took the picture in May that showed dozens of climbers stuck at the summit of Everest and that went viral, causing the Nepalese government to draft a new set of climbing rules intended to reduce the crowd in that area, following criticism from climbers who said they were neglecting security and granting permits to anyone paying $ 11,000.
