At a trade union meeting last week, 93 percent of nearly 200 players present voted to go on strike. On Monday, the players' union (AFE) announced that the strike will end, following an unsuccessful meeting with ACFF, which represents the Spanish women's clubs.

"We have not reached an agreement with the ACFF, and therefore a strike will be announced indefinitely for the matches in the senior league, and it will start this weekend November 16-17," AFE said in a statement.

The biggest disagreement concerns the salaries of players with part-time contracts. AFE has requested a minimum wage of 12,000 euros for part-time contracts, but the clubs have offered 8,000 euros.

The Swedish national team players Kosovare Asllani and Sofia Jakobsson play in major betting CD Tacón, and are included in the strike. However, they should not have been present at last week's players' meeting, according to previous information in Spanish media.

The women's highest in Spain is run by the Spanish Football Association (RFEF). A source within the union tells Reuters that RFEF is following the conflict, but that it is primarily a matter for the players and clubs to resolve.
