The heat in Doha was extreme during the athletics world championships. The walking and marathon competitions were held during the nights, but the heat nevertheless caused major problems among the practitioners. Despite this, the Swedish bronze medalist from the World Cup wants the competitions in the Olympic Games to stop in Tokyo, where it is expected to be extremely hot next summer.

- It's very sad if they move it from Tokyo. Everyone knows that it will be the conditions, it is possible to adapt, but you have to care to do so, says Perseus Karlström to SVT Sport.

Smaller Swedish fans would cheer

It is not only that he succeeded well in the heat that makes him want to keep the competitions in Tokyo, but also to see more Swedish flags around the track.

- It would be sad if it was moved. Then there would also be much less Swedes in the audience than it had been in Tokyo. The spontaneous ones that could come out cheering, they will not go several miles to check out the competitions.

World Cup - a good genre

He says that the World Cup was a good genre for next summer. And the genre gave him valuable experience before the Olympics.

- We will refine our methods to better manage the heat. So Tokyo will be better than Doha.

- You can handle the heat. That is part of the challenge, we must constantly adapt to different conditions. It's fun, it's part of the challenge, he says.

"They haven't prepared so well"

Karlström understands that there are those who think differently, who want to move the competitions. At the same time, he believes that they are simply not prepared for the heat.

- It is not a great many of my colleagues who would think it was a bad decision if it should be moved, so much I can say. But at the same time, they had not prepared so well either. They may have thought they had it, but they didn't have it in the end, and then things went bad for them.

- It is clear that it is frustrating when you cannot perform when you have been training for something for several years. But then they have barred something.
