Flamengo scored four spectacular goals in the second half to crush compatriot Gremio 5-0 in the second leg of the Libertadores Cup semi-finals and reach the final of the continental competition for the first time since 1981.

The win, which came after a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Porto Alegre, extended Flamengo's unbeaten run to 18 games in all competitions this season.

In the Brazilian-Argentine final, Flamengo will play defending champions River Plate in Santiago on November 23.

River lost 1-0 to local rivals Boca Juniors on Tuesday, but qualified for the final with a 2-1 overall lead.

In front of some 70,000 spectators at Rio's legendary Maracana stadium, he scored the goals of Flamengo Bruno Henrique (43), Gabriel Barbosa (47, 56 penalty), Pablo Marie (67) and Rodrigo Caillou (71).

"We have written our names in the Flamengo history," said Barbosa, who is on loan from Inter Milan.

Gremio, who won the semi-finals last season, did little to do with his tough opponent.

Flamengo have not won the Libertadores Cup since 1981.
