Spaniard Fernando Alonso confirmed Thursday that he will participate in the Dakar Rally 2020, which will be held for the first time in Saudi Arabia in January, in the colors of the Toyota team.

"Now, it's official! I'm going to the next Dakar with legendary Mark Kuma and Toyota Gaso Racing. It's a big challenge," the former Formula One world champion wrote on his official Twitter website.

Since retiring from the A-Class last year, Spain's Matador won the 24-hour race in Le Mans for the second time in a row, and also won the WEC World Endurance Championship with Toyota.

Alonso, who won the Formula One World Championship with Renault in 2005 and 2006, recently participated in the Moroccan Desert Rally with his navigator and fellow Dakar champion Kuma five times on a motorbike, and finished 27th. On the requirements of Ryde Rallies.

Alonso is hoping to win the 500-mile race in Indianapolis as he seeks to win the big "three titles" in motorsport after winning the Formula One (or Monaco) and 24-hour race in Le Mans.
