Israel will participate in the Grand Slam Judo Championship, which kicks off in the UAE capital Abu Dhabi this weekend, according to an official Israeli channel.

"The Israeli delegation participating in the judo tournament in Abu Dhabi consists of five players," Arabic-language Makan said.

No further details were given about the participation, which comes for the third year in a row despite appeals from some international organizations opposed to normalization with the occupation.

The Grand Slam Judo Championship kicks off in Abu Dhabi on Thursday and will run until Saturday with the participation of 104 countries.

With the exception of Egypt and Jordan, Arab countries do not have public diplomatic relations with Tel Aviv.

This participation comes within the pace of normalization that has increased over the past two years in various forms with Arab countries, through Israeli participation in sports and cultural activities held by the UAE.
