The Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro arrested on Tuesday about twenty violent fans who planned to invade the Maracana stadium in Wednesday's game in which the Brazilian clubs Flamengo and Gremio will define one of the finalists of the Copa Libertadores, official sources reported.

At least 18 Flamengo fans had been arrested on the morning of this Tuesday in an operation that the Civil Police intended to serve 27 prison terms in different neighborhoods of Rio de Janeiro against members of a group that had been monitored on social networks and With telephone listeners.

In one of the operations against the band of brave bars there was an exchange of shots that left at least one dead and two injured, among which a man who was on a bus and was hit by a lost bullet.

The members of the group, at least one hundred , were exchanging messages on social networks about their plans to invade the Maracana in the middle of the game, in which Flamengo, who drew 1-1 with the Guild in the first leg, is enough a draw no goals to advance to the final and measure the winner of the duel this Tuesday between the Argentine Boca Juniors and River Plate .

In the messages the fans also threatened to attack the police, practice robberies and attack the Guild fans . According to the Civil Police, several of the 100 fans identified as members of this group, who will initially be accused of association to commit crimes, have a criminal record or respond to proceedings before the Hincha Court for violent acts in sports competitions.

" Their intention was to invade (the Maracana ) or practice crimes such as bodily injury and theft to get tickets. To prevent these crimes we made several efforts since Friday. We are identifying other people to request their arrest," said Commissioner Carina da Silva Bastos, head of the 18 de Civil Police Station of Rio de Janeiro, in statements to journalists.

The police station made public some of the audios in which violent fans announce their plans and say they are willing to do everything to enter the stadium.

"Some have a police record for crimes such as homicide, robbery and drug trafficking," the commissioner added.

To prevent any type of incident, the authorities of Rio de Janeiro decided to declare the match by semifinals of the Libertadores, in which some 62,000 fans are expected, at maximum risk and raise the number of police officers responsible for security up to 800.

" It is a mobilization far superior to that of previous matches of both the Libertadores and the Brazilian Championship. We will have several points of blockade. Just swell with the entrance will go through the blockades," said the commander of the Police Battalion for Stadiums, Silvio Luiz

The authorities have as background the invasion of the Maracaná promoted in 2017 by fans of Flamengo in the match for the final of the South American Cup, whose title was then conquered by the Argentine Independent.

Shortly before the game the fans caused widespread confusion around the mythical stadium, which they took to enter the force through different gates.

The Police had at the time several difficulties to contain the attempts of Flamengo fans to invade the stadium.

After the game Flamengo was sanctioned with a suspension of his stadium in Conmebol matches and with a fine imposed by the Brazilian authorities.
