AZ will also replace the roof above the main stand of the AFAS Stadium. Following the rest of the stadium, research shows that that part is also unsafe.

The Eredivisie club stadium has not been in use since August, when part of the roof collapsed during a storm. At the beginning of this month, three quarters of the roof was removed from the stadium.

"We put the safety of our fans and visitors first and therefore do not take any risks. That is why we have decided to renew the roof above the main stand as soon as possible," said general manager Robert Eenhoorn on the AZ site.

Research by Royal HaskoningDHV showed that the construction of the collapsed roof was not strong enough, which now also appears to be the case above the main stand. It is not yet known when that work will be started and completed.

AZ is currently playing home games in the ADO Den Haag stadium and reported at the end of September that it hopes to be able to play in its own stadium again in mid-December, but that plan seems to have to be postponed due to the roof approach above the main stand.
