It was Vancouver who took command in Sunday's Swedish-sponsored NHL meeting. On either side of the ice, Henrik Lundqvist and Jakob Markström guarded the goal posts, for Markström's first match from the start since last Saturday.

And the 29-year-old from Gävle got a dream start with his Canucks. 3-0 before the first period was over where Elias Pettersson accounted for two assists, a rebound following yesterday's scoreless loss to New Jersey.

Fast's reduction goal brought to life the Rangers

But then the match picture changed significantly. In the middle period came the important reduction for Rangers, when Jesper Fast scored his second goal of the season - a control of Jacob Trouba's shot from the blue line in numerical disadvantage.

A goal that provided added flavor for the home team. The final round became a single long forcing from Rangers. Fast and Mika Zibanejad fixed two new Swedish points when they were behind Artemij Panarin's 2–3 reduction. It was sometimes a game against a goal, but despite 17-6 shooting in the third period, the Rangers failed to outscore Markström who sacrificed everything to keep tight.

- He is making a great last period, because Vancouver is only playing time here. It is very difficult when you get into the mental attitude, then you get really stressed out, comments SVT's expert Mikael Renberg.

In total, Markström fired 38 shots and was named the best player of the match.

- Don't ask how, but we got the job done. The last ten minutes are really tough, then everyone just gave everything they had and it was great to see, says Markström in a match interview.
