• Road safety: Spain already has 1,301 radars after incorporating eight new ones today

Until last June 30, the General Directorate of Traffic has formulated on Spanish roads that monitors 1,320,340 complaints of speeding, which represents a 12.4% increase on the number of complaints made in the same period of the Last year (1,173,855 complaints), according to the data of Associated European Motorists (AE), whose president Mario Arnaldo believes that the rise in complaints has to do with the activation of radars that in 2018 were not activated.

The DGT does not have all its radars in operation but many of them only have the box and thus exert a deterrent effect on drivers.

By autonomous communities, the AEA report highlights that the most active radars until June have been located in Andalusia , with 332,154 complaints (25%); in the Valencian Community , with 172,997 complaints (13%) and in the Community of Madrid , with 169,624 (12%). On the contrary, in La Rioja (9,220), Cantabria (13,935) and Navarra (15,826) are those who have made the least complaints.

According to the AEA study, it states that only 25 of the nearly 1,000 available to the DGT, make 34% of the total complaints (450,397) and of them, only six are repeated with respect to the list of the most active kineometers of the year previous, locating the rest (19) in new locations.

Radars at full capacity

In addition, the association says that certain radars have experienced exponential increases in the formulation of complaints.

Thus, for example, the most active radar of 2019, located at km. 79.9 of H-31, in Huelva, has gone from making 1,566 complaints in 2018 to 38,930 this year . Also the radars located in the km. 478.1 of the AP-7 and at km. 5.2 of the V-31, in Valencia, have experienced increases of more than eleven thousand percent! (See list)
