After yesterday's European qualifying match between England and Bulgaria had to be interrupted several times because the audience was heard shouting racist glare at England's black players, the chairman of the Bulgarian Football Association, Borislav Mihajlov, is leaving.

"Today, the chairman of the Bulgarian Football Association (BFU) has submitted his resignation application, which will be presented to the executive committee on Friday," the BFU writes in a statement.

The country's prime minister, Bojko Borisov, said earlier in the day that the government no longer has confidence in Mihajlov and urged him to step down. So Mihajlov has chosen to do just that, he writes on his website.
